About Us
Barclay Assessment Services, L.L.C. (BAS) was formed in 2002 by Michael T. Barclay, CIH, CSP. Michael, who holds a Master of Science Degree in Occupational and Environmental Health from Wayne State School of Medicine, is certified in Industrial Hygiene from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH); and, Safety from the American Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). With over 30 years of experience in hazard recognition and assessment, BAS has participated in and personally overseen hundreds of indoor air quality studies. In addition, we have engaged multiple projects including health hazard exposure assessments, site characterizations, safety plan development, microbial contamination evaluations, exposure modeling, quantitative environmental risk assessments, and research for various clients (e.g. governmental agencies, legal firms, property managers of commercial and residential facilities, schools, health care facilities, and small and large-scale industries).
Our professional staff, including microbiological laboratory personnel,
have a achieved a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Science from an accredited
university, supplemented with current and relevant postgraduate training.
Barclay Assessment Services, L.L.C. has provided consulting and assessment
services to a broad range of occupational, industrial, and residential
clients. Within a week after Hurricane Katrina, we provided hazard assessment
services to MCI needed to safely restore communication networks servicing
New Orleans and surrounding affected areas.
In addition, we completed the identification and assessment of hazards,
caused by the wake of Hurricane Katrina, of the Veterans Administration
Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The objectives met included
the identification of health and safety hazards within the 1.5 million
sq. ft. structure, supplemented with mold assessment and hazard abatement
planning.
Michael Barclay, Company founder and managing member, personally has served
NASA in assessing many health, safety, and environmental risks associated
with advanced thermal-chemical insulation systems, hazardous wastes, and
manned-spacecraft manufacturing operations at the NASA Michoud Assembly
Facility in New Orleans. Also, Michael Barclay is the Past Chairman of
the American Industrial Hygiene Associations Biosafety & Environmental
Microbiology Committee, as well as a full member of the American Industrial
Hygiene Association for over 25 years, and has served on a number of environmental
health risk task forces. In addition, he has served as an expert witness
providing testimony at depositions and in courts cases related to industrial
hygiene and mold in the State of Louisiana judicial system.
Tainted Chinese Drywall
Barclay Assessment Services, L.L.C. is actively engaged in research and development of methods for assessing hazardous emissions (corrosion) from
tainted Chinese drywall (CDW). Following a scientific approach, our research
has evaluated several methods for determining the corrosion rate in homes.
In a recent breakthrough development, we have identified a time and cost-effective method for distinguishing the corrosion rate in CDW-affected homes as
compared to the Norm (i.e. comparative corrosion data obtained from homes
free of tainted Chinese drywall). Concurrently, we are collaborating in
the development of a White Paper sponsored by the AIHA on Chinese drywall
hazards. This White Paper is intended to be an authoritative reference
for the recognition, characterization, detection, and control of the hazards
pertaining to tainted Chinese drywall. For the latest information on our
progress, please bookmark our site us for the latest information.
Our trained and qualified staff provides ongoing technical and laboratory
support to a diverse group of clients, including indoor air quality investigators,
health care providers, insurers, property managers and owners.
